Some PARK(ing) Day History
Although Rebar, the interdisciplinary studio based in San Francisco, is the original inventor of the current worldwide movement that is called “PARK(ing) Day” they were not the first organization to repurpose the metered parking space for other uses.
The practice dates back to at least the 1930′s, when citizens of Oklahoma City set up card tables, dropped a few coins in the meter and played bridge in parking spaces to protest the very creation of parking meters themselves!
