Thank You!

PARK(ing) Day has come and gone and London’s first attempt was a complete success!

Congratulations London!

On behalf of everyone who created a spot, participated in or attended the first PARK(ing) Day in London, I wanted to take a moment to highlight and thank a number of people, businesses and organizations who made this creative & engaging event possible.

Participants & Space Creators

PARK(ing) Day would not have happened without the individuals, businesses and organizations who took it upon themselves to think up and implement creative PARK(ing) Space ideas. PARK(ing) Day Participants include:

Supporters & Sponsors

Thanks to the great businesses and organizations that supported and sponsored London’s first PARK(ing) Day we were able to make the event even more memorable with t-shirts, buttons, this formal website, posters, handouts and an assortment of other materials. Sponsors and supporters of PARK(ing) Day London include:

Municipal Staff & City Council

I wanted to thank Lou Pompilii from the City of London for being the primary contact to help organize PARK(ing) Day London from a municipal government perspective. In addition, Jay Stanford, Allison Cook and Ryan Craven all deserve recognition for helping to see PARK(ing) Day happen and for coming out to enjoy the event.

Judy Bryant, Nancy Branscombe and Paul Hubert along with Anne-Marie DeCicco-Best all need to be thanks for supporting PARK(ing) Day from the beginning and coming out to celebrate the day with all participants and attendees.

RedCat Film

A large thanks needs to go out to Edward Platero, Larry Petrov and John Diemer of RedCat Film for coming out and filming a documentary about PARK(ing) Day London. We can’t wait to see the finished film.

Swag Creators

A shout out needs to go out to Shane & Greg at Fresh Ink Apparel for creating the PARK(ing) Day t-shirts.  The service was quick, the product was high quality, the price was just right and the guys themselves were great to deal with. I highly recommend them for t-shirts and other apparel.

Although there was a slight hiccup I have to say that I was very impressed with Crucial Pins out of Toronto and the service/product they provided.  I’ve used them before and have always had great results.  You need to check them out if you want to promote your event, band or personal brand.

A Special Thanks

A special & personal thanks needs to go to Katie Van Den Berg. Katie not only created the majority of designs and layouts for materials used to promote PARK(ing) Day, but she put up with the frustrations, curse words and stupid ideas I had throughout the planning process.

I think much like the first Car-Free Sunday, the upcoming one and other like initiatives, PARK(ing) Day was a way for various community members to invest their city in creative ways while having fun engaging with other citizens. I know for a fact that each participant, supporter and sponsor got involved in PARK(ing) Day for different reasons but they all had a common goal: to improve the quality of life in the city of London (even if only for 2 hours) and to show they are proud to contribute to, and committed to making sure that the future of London moves in the right direction, whatever direction that may be.

Please keep an eye on www.parkingdaylondon.ca in the coming weeks, we will be highlighting each space, some of the media attention and when it has been finalized we will be sharing the documentary that many of you were filmed for on Friday.
